The Magic Ring
is Sian Valvis's delightful transadaptation of a Slavic folk tale as written in dialect by Boris Shergin. With great invention and humour, the story evokes the spirit of the original, introducing the reader to new words (and worlds) while telling the twisting and turning tale of Vanya and his talking animals. The book is beautifully illustrated by Dovile Valvis, thus reuniting the same team who created Kolobok, published by Fontanka (and reviewed in East-West Review
here).

A Cabinet of Wonders
is an extraordinary book that accompanies an equally extraordinary exhibition currently showing at the Museo di Palazzo Grimani in Venice. Centred on the collection of George Loudon, it brings together hundreds of exquisite objects originally created as educational instruments in the 19th century within the beautiful setting of the palazzo and its artwork. Cabinets of curiosities – the Kunstkammer or Wunderkammer – were encyclopaedic collections that sought to encompass the vast spectrum of human knowledge through artificilia, exotica and scientifica.
Fontanka's wide range of books bring the best of contemporary design to publications on Eastern Europe, Russia and other parts of the world.
